help pls, chinese input method

recently suddenly there is a problem with my windows XP labtop. I couldalways type in chinese before. but one day, when I swicthed from Japanese input method to chinese, it did work anymore. sometimes, pinyin came out but then stopped, sometimes error happened and the program closed immediately.
does anyone know the possible reason?
I do not know the real reason. only thing I remember is that I have updated my yahoo messenger to the newest version, but found it not so good, then deleted. will it affect chinese inputting?
