a technology question for

I have a technology question. I am planning install a software in a new laptop. The installation of this software requires a floppy disk as a key disk, since the new laptop does not have a floppy driver,so how can I fix this problem. I understand that a external floppy driver can let the computer read the floppy, but during the installation of that software, it just search automaticly to A: driver. So I am wondering if the external floppy driver is able to work for this case. Any suggestion is appreciated.
