How to link NB to home netwk

Hi there. I have three PCs in my home linked by a router what files can be shared among them. However, I have a Notebook PC running XP(H) that I can't make it visible to the LAN. Do I need to do anything special for it such as firewall? Thanks if you can share your knowledge with me...
