practical approach?

I have been suspecting that if I buy a computer at the right price, I can always sell it for not much less one year later, therefore, not spending much on computing.

For example, if I get a E-machine 2.66 ghz with 512 m ram, 80 gb, DVD rom and CD-RW and 17 CRT monitor package at Bestbuy the day after Thanksgiving for $200, or I can buy a Dell P4 3.0 ghz with 514 m ram, 40gb, DVD rom, plus 15 inch flat monitor and a 3-in-1 printer package for $560.

Does everyone agree or you have different opinions?
