Excel question, need expert

How do I turn the following data:

1 A
1 B
1 C
2 D
2 E
2 F
3 G
3 H
3 I

into:

1 A B C
2 D E F
3 G H I

???

I tried to use pivot table, but the data field in the table can only be either the Count of how many A's, B's, C's, etc. or the Sum of A, B, C, etc. Neither of them is what I want, I just want to transfer the data into a table. I also thought of copy-paste-transpose, but it doesn't seem to work either. I'm using Excel 2000. Please help! Thanks!
