Is it attached to a usb hub?

If that is the case, then there might not be power deliever to the mouse (especially in the case where there are several power hungry devices attach to the same non-powered u***** hub). Otherwise, you might want to upgrade system/hardware drivers (u***** mouse driver and the motherboard chipset drivers such as Via 4-in-1).
