thanks again! I do have another pc, but it also runs win2000, I don't have 98 or xp.

the other ide bus is for the floppy and doesn't fit the HD and CDROM.

I tried to use a working HD, but the pc still can't detect it. since it can't detect the CDROM either, maybe it's not the HD's problem.

what's a raid card?
