奇怪问题求助

I have a system based on ep-8k7a about 3 years old. Recently everytime I turn on the computer (turn on the power), the monitor will not response, the hard drive light will blink for a while and then go to silent. Then I need to wait about 3 minutes or so, then push the reboot button, this time the monitor will be on and then the system will start up just fine. That's a small problem I can live with. But since a few days ago, the computer started to crash on me like 10 times a day, especially if I was doing some multimedia task such as watching a DVD or playing a game. At first I thought it's due to my windows 2000 problem, since the computer crashed while I was installing this latest patch from microsoft for DirectX 9. So I tried to do a completely windows 2000 reinstall, but so far the installattion failed twice because the system just halted while it's copying files from cd-rom ( the cd-rom light stopped blinking).

So I am wondering what possible problems I have here?
1.mainboard battery?
2.power supply?
3.bad luck....?
If you have any idea, please let me know.
