silly question abt LAN

I have some problem with LAN connection. At home, I could use wireless connection surfing online. However, when I went to computer lab, and connected to the LAN, although my computer showed in the right lower corner that LAN connection was good ( 100mbps), I could not open any website, nor the internet option showed detection of any internet connection.

when I go to setting-->control panel--> network connection-->LAN or high speed internet--> local area connection status-->that showed my connection was good 100Mbps, but ‘Packets’ under ‘Activity” : showed ‘sent’ 1500, .. ‘received’ zero, and internet was not connected. Internet explorer showed no internet connection available. I did plug in the LAN connector (or adaptor) ( I don't know real term)

In the same building where the computer lab located, when I went to my friend’s office, unplug his LAN adaptor, and plug into my laptop, I could go online without any problem,
What’s the problem here? Thanks for your help
