try :
1. Into CMOS, detect HD to see if your Hard Drive still can be detected. If not, mostly the HD was dead.
2. If the BIOS still can find the HD, use a 98 boot floopy to bring command line, run fdisk.exe to see if your partition still there. If not, your data was gone.
3. If your partitions looks OK, exit FDISK, from command line, give fdisk /MBR to rewarite HD boot sector.
