Enable internal Cache problem

I have a EP-7KXA run win2k and win98SE for years, recently after clean up some of virus it can't boot up. When I format HD and try to re-install, the install can’t go through, it always stuck in certain stage. I tried different HD, CDROM,DIMM,Video card, update BIOS, no one works. Finally when I try every thing in CMOS config, I find once disable CPU L1 Cache, the windows setup go through. It really confuse me, I never heard Athlon L1 Cache could cause problem and I always enable it before and it has no problem to setup and running win2k/win98SE. When I installed win98SE, I try to enable CPU L1 Cache again, the Win98 boot up stuck.
Anyone have any idea what is the problem? It is mean the Athlon got damaged or the power supply have problem?
