Pinnacle Studio in XP problem

I got studion 8 installed in XP SP1. When I double click the icon, I get an error dialog box that says "Studio program file has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and sends an error report to Microsoft. Version of Studio is 7.01. I've been to the Pinnacle driver/upgrade site and cannot figure out if any of the patches are what I need. Can anyone shed any light as to what may be the fix for this problem? I'd really like to get Studio working again. Thanks.
