Do you have XP's sp1 installed

If you have XP and sp1 installed, Windows will not connect to the router automatically as a security meansure. You double click the little connection icon in the system tray (at lower right corner of the window), you will see Window asks you that your router doesn't has WAP (a encription protocal) turned on, and it would be dangerous to connect without protection. You have to manually check the box to let Windows connect even without WAP on. Then you should be fine.

Not sure if it works, but worth the try...
