Cable's advantage is always its speed, but the downside is the consistency. However, with more and more co-ax in the network being replaced by fiber optic, the rush hour jamming is less and less observable. Overall, I think cable is a better deal than DSL, even after considering price difference.

I use Comcast as well and my download speed can reach 500+ KBps (4+ Mbps). I'll consider myself lucky if I can get 1 Mbps on DSL.
