You will need Excel for Windows after week 6. Unfortunately the discrete-event software that
we’ll use will not run on a Mac. If you have a Mac there are a few ways to get this:
o Leave your computer with the walk-in helpdesk for 24-48 hours and they will
install Bootcamp. This means your hard drive will be partitioned and you will have
to restart your computer to switch from Mac mode to Windows. It’s free. Bring
an external hard drive when you bring in your computer if you want them to back
up your computer before they install it.
o Buy a virtualization application like VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop. The pro
is that you can switch easily between Windows and Mac, but the downside is that
it’s not supported by the school so they can’t help you if you run into problems. They cost
about $50.
