笔记本电脑新硬盘不工作

Toshiba Satellite L25-S119 laptop, Celeron CPU. Hard drive was dead. Just bought a new SAMSUNG HM160HC 160GB drive (original 60 GB). I restored the window xp operating system and some kinds of software, then laptop turned off suddenly and did not turn on any more. What can I do now? The seller asked me to update my laptop BIOS. What is that?
