my desktop (windows XP) can not access gmail

my computer always appear "windows system suite" popup lately, I installed a free anti spy-ware software to clean the system suite popup. After that, I uninstalled the anti spy-ware stuff, then installed a McaFee home version security center. Somehow I can not access gmail from google, then I tried to search something at google.ca, I get nothing, but the other web sites seem ok. I thought this was cause of McaFee, then I uninstlled it, but I still can not access gmail and can not use google to search anything, what is the problem? Thanks.
