How to unintstall "Windows Live Messenger"?

I did not have it before. Don't know what I did, but now it opens every time I turn on the computer. Can't find it in Start Up or Program files. Can some nice and smart brothers or sisters help me?

2. "Java update" also keeps popping up. Should I install/update it? Is it safe? What does it do?
