It seems that your new memory chips is not compatable with the old one. Try to take out the old run and just with the new one.
If you are running XP, one gigabyte is quite good for most applications.
System restart usually caused by power supply, main board or memory chips. If you have re-installed the windows and cannot clear the problem, you might need to try testing those hardware.
