You can download Ulead from many chinese websites.
Hook up your MiniDV camcorder to PC's firewire (1394) port, run ulead to transfer all the video data from minidv tape to hard drive. The video data is saved in avi format. you can then use any converter you like to compress/covert the avi file. 1hr minidv tape dumps out about 10g raw avi file. recommend to run compression/conversion on a fast pc.
