1. make sure C: has enough free space. vista by default use C:\\hiberfil.sys to hold the dump of memory when hibernating;

2. check bios and make sure hibernate is supported and properly enabled. If the bios is old, flash your bios;

3. if you're not on vista sp1, upgrade to sp1. ms has released at least a dozen of hotfixes for vista sleep/hibernate problems;

4. i assume your power management is properly configured.
