Could any pros tell me how hard C++ is?

I did Computing Science at college. After graduation, I have been doing IT support for 6 years. I have a little clue of what programming is.

Now, I have been asked by a friend to make a small C++ program for him. I got a C++ book, and the Bloodshed compiler. I want to take 2 weeks to crack the book, and a week to do the coding. Could any insiders tell me the possibility of my plan.

If somebody say it is impossible, I would not waste my friend's time and anticipation.
