Much easy if you have wired connection.
1) Check the setup of the wired network adapter (win key + break, hardware, device manager), if driver installed properly
2) If adapter ok, run "ipconfig /all" at command. If machine get any ip from the DHCP
3) run "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" to the router ip to see any response
Those are things that I will check for trouble shooting.
