一般来讲,a hostid is a unique identifier for a computer. It's not related to where the machine is located. For most systems (*nix, osx and windows), it's the mac address. For Solaris, it's another unique number assigned to each machine other than the mac address. To get it in a Solaris system, type:

#hostid

or

#sysdef -h
