I did record some songs from .rm as mp3 for my MP3 player. Maybe the noise really comes from some source on your machine.
When you record using total record, you need to set the recording source: software or the sound card. Most cases to use the Total record is to record from the software, like from some software players. select "sound card" only if you want to record the voice from the MICphone.
