You need to follow your heart. It does not mean you get to sales then you can do well. There are plenty of project managers/leads/ and sales people that do much worse than programmers. You have to know what you want in life. There is always more money to be made, but only very few can make it, no matter be a programmer or sales people.

If you hate programming, there is no reason to hang around; If programming is you bread and butter, feel good about yourself because over 70% of the population makes less then you do; if you love programming, then so much the better.
