Many years ago I had a Tohiba Tecra 700, at the time it was the flagship of Toshiba notebooks. Unfortunately after about two years, the screen behaved weird, sometime it was fine, sometime I needed to flap it to make it work. I sent it to a Toshiba authorized shop and got it fixed. They told me that the data cable was broken. Yours sounds like the case.
