NTFS can recover some hard disk sector errors, also offer better file security (but for home use, it may not needed).

Converting process should be fairly quick and safe. Just make sure you have big enough free space available.

NTFS may cause Windows running a little slower but you should not feel the difference if CPU is fast enough (> 450 Mhz).
