Pentium 4 has internal cache, if only for internet surfing, they r the same. But for compress video or large amount batch processes, P4 is better.
Athlon is the same as P4, just P4 has more software support. So for those application doesn't have Athlon special driver, P4 will perform better. Besides, P4 Mobile is the best for laptop, for the heat generated and power consumed.
So if u have money, pick one has P4-M processor.
