how to system restore? someone please teach me how to do it

there is something wrong with my computer. when I close a window(like ie explorer or my document), there comes a window said:

MY DOCUMENT: EXPLORER. EXE- APPLICATION ERROR

THE INSTRUCTION AT "0*00000000"REFERENCED MEMORY AT "0*00000000". THE MEMORY COULD NOT BE "WRITTEN".
CLICK ON OK TO TERMINATE THE PROGRAM
CLICK ON CANCEL TO DEBUG THE PROGRAM

is there a way to fix my computer, does system restore help? if is does, someone please teach me how to do it.
