might be hard disk problem

1)If it is still under warranty, send it back to HP.
2)If you want to do the diagnostic, try these.
a.get into the BIOS and see if the hard drive present
b.check the physical connection of the hard drive
c.(if IDE hd) use the CD cable to connect the hd
d. swap the hard drive to another IDE sockets in the main board.
e. if SATA, use the second SATA port on the main board.
