How to install Windows through a removable hard drive?

My TOSHIBA laptop’s system is completely down. I cannot even use the safe mode. My DVD driver is broken as well so I cannot reinstall my system by using the recovery CD. I copied the content of the recovery CD to a removable hard drive, which can be connected to my laptop through the USB port. Can somebody tell me how to install the system from this hard drive? It does not seem that it will install automatically. I use my laptop everyday but my computer knowledge is quite limited. Thanks very very much.
