Can not log on!!! Help!!!

The Operating System of my computer is Windows NT4.0. This computer is shared
by several other people. Somehow I can not log on anymore. I input the
user name and p/w as usual, but was told either one is incorrect. What happened?
If I reinstall the OS, will I lose my data, programs,etc.? Please help!!!
