about powerpoint

I can read the powerpoint files, but I can not make my own powerpoint file. When I input the letter in the slide, powerpoint blocks. I got this problem with office 2000, xp and now 2003. The other program (word, execl, et.al.)work well. Somebody can tell me something? Thank you in advance.
