How to display Chinese in emails

I just brought a new computer with window XP home. At IE, I downloaded the simplied chinese. At control panel, I also set up region and language, but I still could not see Chinese in my emails. I can browse Chinese website, but all Chinese emails are un-readable. Please, please help. Thank you in advance.
