Would like buy an Apple, not sure how compatible with PC

I wanna try an Apple G4 laptop with 12inch monitor. Cause I only have experience in using PC, can anyone familiar with with MAC give me some tips on the following question?
1. can I use office on it? I use word powerpoint and excel a lot.
2. the software such as Matlab. Can MAC use the same installation disk as pc?
3. some games such as age of empire (AOE) or CS :)
