Even great companies can be volatile

Even great companies can be volatile. Sometimes, it's a good discipline to take profits. But sometimes, it's an even better discipline to hold your winners longer.

• Apple (AAPL) - 2008: Cratered by ~60% during the financial crisis. It's now up over ~5,000% since.

• Amazon (AMZN) - 2000s: Fell ~95% after the dot-com bust. Today? A trillion-dollar giant.

• Nvidia (NVDA) - 2022: Plunged ~67% on recession fears. Now up more than ~500% since.

• Tesla (TSLA) - 2019: Nearly written off, trading under $20 (split-adjusted). It's up over ~1,500% since.

• Meta (META) - 2022: Lost ~75% of its value as Wall Street called it "dead money." It has tripled since.

 • Netflix (NFLX) - 2022: Dropped nearly 70% from its peak on slowing subscriber growth and increased competition. It has since surged over 500%.
