Most important thing: Report to your insurance company.
However, since you are in CA, no lawyers are allowed in small claim court. So either your insurance company can transfer it to a formal court, or you have to appear in court. Most likely you will go to court yourself.
Even if you lose, your insurance company will pay for the judgement IF you inform them now.
