Basic Speed limit vs. Statutory Speed Limit

Basic speed limit is whatever is reasonable and prudent considering the condition. .

Statutory Speed limit are those numbers posted on the side of a road.

You violated the first provision. You have to check your state driver's manual to find out points.  It doesn't matter if you are within the statuory speed limit of that particular road, if it snows, you have to slow down.
