DJ Fed Officials Concerned About Slowdown Before Brutal Jobs Data -- Market Talk

1416 ET - The minutes from the Fed's July meeting show that some Fed officials were becoming more concerned about an economic slowdown at the meeting that wrapped up July 30. "Several participants stated that they expected growth in economic activity to remain low in the second half of this year," the minutes say. They add: "Regarding the household sector, several participants observed that slower real income growth may be weighing on growth in consumer spending." It's important to keep in mind that these observations came days before the July jobs report, which revised down May and June job-creation estimates by 258,000. So concerns of a slowdown driven by a weaker labor market may have deepened for some officials in the time since the July meeting. (matt.grossman@wsj.com; @mattgrossman)
