The is clear and scientific definition about "缺碘" and "碘中毒", and it is not about the thickness of the neck at all. The quality of live for people suffering from  "缺碘" is significantly impacted by the problem.

Your story tells us how far some people would go to fabricate evidence to support their ideas, intentionally or due to ignorence.
