i am now thinking go back to shanghai to live 3 to 5 years. we have two kids. one 3 years old, one 3 months now.
Let me say the benefits:
1. i think just put all our money in chinese banks, will have interest about 1 million RMB a year.
if RMB goes up slowly, it is extra benefit. But if RMB goes down, or there is a turmoil in China, then it will backfires. the interests from bank, shall be enough to live. And I do not need to work, or at lease seriously. (you can say i am usual, but ...)
2. Labour costs much cheaper in China. We can hire nanny 24 hours.
3. Education for kids in chinese
4. Weather, no winter. We are in Canada. Half year is winter.
5. Maybe much fun to live (at least for me), really boring in Canada.
6. lots of relatives of my side, friends in shanghai. we don't have any relative in canada. no time for friend in canada. just hire hourly workers if we need, but takes time to find one in canada.
Benefit for staying in Canada. We are still under 40.
1. safe, no child kidnapping, no one fights in street. worry safety for kids growing in china.
2. air much clean. I had asthma when I was in shanghai till 18 years old.
3. makes about 150k CAD after tax, plus about 10k in interest from bank, (if property price goes up in canada, it is extra). But have to work hard, 365 days, sometimes fights in court with debtors, name calling etc.
Worries about back to Shanghai.
1. Earthquake (yes maybe I have some phobia, i don't want to live anything over 3 stories, cannot run out in earthquake, or collapse of building by fire or accident)
2. Healthcare, Canada has free healthcare, but it covers worldwide for its citizen.
My wife is not Chinese, she does not speak chinese. She does not like to live in China or Shanghai. Shanghai is still close to her homeland.
