Riding the rails between Shanghai & Suzhou, and then Suzhou & Hangzhou, was a wonderful experience. The train is amazing! It's modern, clean as a whistle, & comfortable. The seats are the same as airplane seats, with one important exception: they have plenty of leg room. The ticketing system is very clear; our tickets bore the number of the train car & the seat number, so we had no trouble finding our seats. Loudspeaker announcements are easily heard & comprehended, and are given in both Chinese & English. At the front of each train car is a scrolling electronic display that announces the upcoming station (again, in Chinese & English) & shows the train's speed. At one point, we noticed that the train was travelling 305 kph! The train stations we saw (in Shanghai & Hangzhou) were as big as airplane hangars, modern & spotlessly clean. I have never been on a train that was even half as nice as this one.
