Personally, I do. It is a whole lot more satisfactory than buying it.

I hired a contractor to remodel my house. I enjoyed working with him and playing jokes or having a nice chat with him, though I did not have to and he would not compensate my time. Although I can easily afford the (extra) expenses, I did my fish pond and the patio myself. They turned out to be my showoff everytime I have visitors.

Do I have to do the work myself in order to save? Well, my donation to the charity is much more than enough to cove the cost of hiring that extra contractor time.
