Honestly why are we on the fiscal cliff? How is our country almost bankrupt? Well America does have the highest incarceration rate in the world, and the cost per inmate isn't cheap. And we spent a lot money on the investigative and judicial process as well. So how did we end up jailing so many people? Our federal government gives law enforcement financial incentives to make marijuana arrests. There are no financial incentives for robbery, rape, and murder arrests. So the result is every 43 seconds someone is arrested for marijuana, while many violent crimes go unsolved. What's wrong with picture? What is even more bizarre is our federal government has marijuana classified more dangerous than morphine, opium, and cocaine. This is simply mind boggling. So after spending a few trillion dollars over the last 30 years on prohibition what is the result? Marijuana usage didn't decrease at all, it actually increased. Though cigarettes which are far more addictive, yet legal, usage actually decreased. Also during this same span law enforcement directives were miss guided which resulted in lack of focus on national security and public safety. Acts of terrorism and mass murders in our country were unheard of 30 years ago, but now they are occurring more and more. Enough is enough. Right now our country is facing a fiscal cliff, now is the time to end prohibition. Regulate and tax marijuana, enough of this utterly failed marijuana policy.
