Yes, you can always argue that this particular one is on "our side". But the problem is, he is not always going to be on your side, unless you always share the same interest, which is impossible. Dictators can and will hijack the whole nation to bring far worse damage upon the nation and the whole world.

Then, it's important that you have common ground and respect each other's value, and that could lead to longer term cooperation.
