Steve Jobs was approved by 97% of his Apple employees

It's always easy to find a disgruntled employee or ex-employee, moreso for a controversial charater like Steve Jobs, who even messed up his own health. What separates good boss and bad boss is whether he/she is fair towards everyone, whether he/she is leading by example, whether he/she separates business and personal, whether he/she has the ability and willingness to lead the way for growth and advancement.

By all those accounts, Jobs is an excellent boss. He did drive his employees aggressively and he did demand results relentlessly, but he drove himself the hardest - stay hungry. stay foolish. Did he play favors for those incompetent but sucking up yes-men and mistreat his capable but holding own dignity and opinions employees? I don't see those stories, even from disgruntled ex-employees. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Did he take advantages of his employees for his personal needs? No, I didn't hear such stories. Have you? He was not the nicest person to be around. So what, his employees probably never expected to be his friends, nor should they.

Looking at those Chinese, Korean, and Japanese TV series or movies about working places. Look at those scenes how employees bow to their supervisors not just physically but moreso mentally. That's more in the culture and customs.

这里有过ID号称,跪老印老白,不如跪老中。What a joke?! How about standing straight on your own, and not kneeling down in front of anyone? For those who claimed how you have to kneel down in front of your "foreign" bosses, and claimed how other Chinese must be doing the same as you do, I suggest you change a job or simply try once to stand up, to see if that gets you fired. Then you will probably realize, no, you don't need to kneel down, and no, other Chinese overseas are actually NOT like you.

Jobs自己就是艺术家、发明家。他既不摆谱也不装。他是要求严格、是完美主义者。 -老看客- 给 老看客 发送悄悄话 老看客 的博客首页 (0 bytes) () 06/05/2012 postreply 12:12:13
