The Chinese government tried very hard to convince people that if people tried to demonstrate, something like 1989 in China, all governments will use military force to crack down, and shoot the demonstrator.
But over and over again, it is the opposite:
East Germany did not shoot its people (the middle aged head of the communist party refused the request from the old head). Similarly for all estern European countries. The secret police in Romania did try to shoot the people, but its military force was fighting with its people, and defeated its secret police.
Now, Egypt has shown the Chinese government that it is not a butcher. That leave the Chinese government one of the few practicing major butchers in the modern world.
