He explained immediately that is not to say China is a bad place, but to have him leave his friends, family, career, everything he is familiar with to move to China (which he does not have any desire to live in) is like to have me move to somewhere that is so not desireable to me.

The choice of words is problematic, but I know he did not intend to offend me, anyone in my family or anyone else that is Chinese or love China. He has nothing against China except he does not want to live there.
