After a century of manufacturing commercial aircraft exclusively on US soil, Boeing decided on building its first offshore plane factory in China. Recently, the company has announced that it will reveal the location of this unprecedented plant by the end of 2016.
Candidate cities include Zhoushan, a city close to Shanghai, Xi’an in Shaanxi province, and Shenyang in Liaoning province.
In September of 2015, Boeing and Commercial Aircraft Corp of China have agreed on building a Boeing 737 completion facility on Chinese territory. The plant will be responsible for the completion of aircraft, which includes flight testing, paint jobs and cabin installation. The completion center is meant to deliver around 100 aircraft per year.
